New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby has opted out of his contract and into free agency, according to NBA<\/a> insiders. Anunoby signed a four-year, $72 million deal with the Toronto Raptors in 2020 with a player option for the 2024-25 season.<\/p>\n

In December 2023, the Knicks traded RJ Barrett, Immanuel Quickly, and a 2024 second-round draft picks to the Raptors for Anunoby, Precious Achiuwa, and Malachi Flynn.\u00a0New York inherited the terms of the deal but risked losing Anunoby as an unrestricted free agent.<\/p>\n

Anunoby's player option is worth $19.9 million next season. Since the salary cap has risen to $141 million for the 2024-25 season, his next contract is projected to top $35 million per season.<\/p>\n

His new deal could exceed the four-year, $118 million contract extension that \u201cAnunoby was limited to signing but would not have accepted with the Raptors,\u201d Yahoo Sports senior NBA reporter Jake Fischer said in January.<\/p>\n

OG Anunoby has declined his $19.9 million player option for next season, a league source tells The Athletic, an expected move. Anunoby will now officially become an unrestricted free agent this summer. Free agency begins June 30.<\/p>\n
