After years of top-10 finishes, Xander Schauffele finally broke through and won his first major championship. 

Schauffele won the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Club by posting a 6-under 65 in the final round to finish the tournament at 21-under, one stroke better than LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau’s 20-under. 

After DeChambeau made a birdie on the par-5 18th to get to 20-under, Schauffele needed a birdie of his own on the final hole to win. After falling about 35 yards short of the green on his third shot, Schauffele chipped the ball to 6 feet. 

Schauffele nailed the birdie, claiming the first major of his career.

Schauffele’s win marks the lowest 72-hole score to par (21-under) in major championship history.

Before Sunday’s victory, Schauffele was on the short list of the best players to never win a major. Schauffele entered the PGA Championship with seven career PGA Tour wins, his most notable coming at the 2017 Tour Championship.

Since 2017, Schauffele has been a staple on Sunday leaderboards at major championships. The San Diego native had 12 top-10 finishes heading into the PGA Championship, including an eighth-place finish at the 2024 Masters.
