FOX Sports Week 8 All-Stars: Lawrence Tops Burrow in Loaded NFL Debate

Trevor Lawrence’s low-volume production for Jacksonville stood alongside Joe Burrow’s historic stat line in a crowded Week 8 NFL all-star discussion.

Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow featured in a Week 8 NFL all-star quarterback debate

The FOX Sports Week 8 All-Stars debate centered on one of the strangest quarterback comparisons of the NFL week: Joe Burrow’s massive overtime workload for the Cincinnati Bengals against Trevor Lawrence’s compact, high-efficiency day for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Burrow delivered the bigger box score and a historic marker, while Lawrence needed only a fraction of the throws to push Jacksonville past the Indianapolis Colts. Around the league, Week 8 also produced heavy rushing totals and several standout receiving lines.

Burrow’s historic day came with a heavy cost

Burrow threw for 462 yards and five touchdowns as the Bengals needed overtime to take down the Tennessee Titans. He also rushed for another score and finished with over 450 passing yards, joining Norm Van Brocklin as the only other player to reach that combination in NFL history.

The full line was not clean. Burrow also threw three interceptions, and Cincinnati needed extra time to beat a Tennessee team described as now 1-7. His day required 48 pass attempts, making it one of the week’s most demanding quarterback performances.

That tension shaped the quarterback debate: Burrow had the historic total and the overtime win, but the turnovers and workload made the comparison less straightforward than the raw touchdown count suggested.

Lawrence’s case was built on precision

Lawrence was not asked to carry the same burden for the Jaguars, but he thrived in a win over the Colts. He threw for 210 yards on just 14 passes as Jacksonville cruised to victory.

The efficiency was the separator. Lawrence needed only 14 passes to produce 210 yards and three touchdowns, giving his performance a different profile from Burrow’s volume-driven outing.

In a week when the quarterback choice could have gone to the most explosive statistical line, Lawrence’s case rested on doing more with less. Burrow’s five touchdown passes and 462 yards kept him firmly in the discussion, but Lawrence’s low-attempt production gave the all-star spot a clear efficiency argument.

Run games made their own case in Week 8

The rushing performances were deep across the league, with five other players rushing for over 100 yards and at least one touchdown. Two efforts stood out within that group.

Bucky Irving led the way for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 56-carry, 324-yard rushing performance. Tampa Bay won easily against the Atlanta Falcons despite not completing a pass, making its ground game one of the most unusual team stories of the week.

Irving has reset his career high twice in recent weeks and delivered 170 yards and a touchdown on Sunday.

Tyler Allgeier also produced a major all-purpose line in the Arizona Cardinals’ overtime win over the Dallas Cowboys. He ran for 147 yards and a touchdown, then added 44 receiving yards and another score.

Higgins gets the receiver nod in Bengals-heavy race

The Bengals’ passing game had more than one standout candidate. Tee Higgins got the nod over teammate Ja’Marr Chase after turning 11 targets into 10 catches, 155 yards and two touchdowns.

The efficiency of that receiving line mattered in the comparison. Higgins produced those numbers on five fewer targets than Chase, strengthening his case in a week when Cincinnati’s offense generated huge passing volume.

Michael Wilson also factored into the receiving discussion after catching the game-tying touchdown in the Cardinals’ overtime win.

What the Week 8 choices underline

Week 8’s all-star debate was not only about the largest totals. Burrow’s historic production, Lawrence’s 14-pass performance, Tampa Bay’s run-only success, Allgeier’s two-way impact and Higgins’ target efficiency all pointed to different ways a player can define a week.

For NFL fans tracking the weekly honors, the quarterback call stood out because both arguments were strong: Burrow made history in an overtime win, while Lawrence delivered one of the cleanest and most efficient passing lines of the week.
