Jets' Garrett Wilson Enters Concussion Protocol After Late Hit

New York Jets wide receiver Garrett Wilson has entered the NFL concussion protocol following a heavy collision late in Sunday's 38-33 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. Head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed Wednesday that the receiver is considered day-to-day, casting doubt on his availability for this weekend's game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Late-Game Hit and Delayed Symptoms

Wilson sustained the head injury during the closing moments of Sunday's defeat. While making a 15-yard catch, he absorbed a helmet-to-helmet hit from Raiders safety Jeremy Chinn, who was subsequently flagged for unnecessary roughness.

Despite the severe impact, Wilson remained on the field for the ensuing snap. On the very next play, quarterback Geno Smith targeted Wilson in the end zone, but Chinn intercepted the pass to effectively end the game.

According to Glenn, Wilson arrived at the team facility on Monday feeling lingering effects from the hit. He was evaluated by medical staff and officially placed into the concussion protocol.

A Major Void in the Jets Offense

Losing Wilson would remove a critical focal point for a Jets team mired in a three-game losing streak and sitting at a 2-6 record. He has hauled in 43 catches for 527 yards and three touchdowns this season. His 43 receptions tie him for the most in the AFC and rank ninth overall in the NFL, while his 63 targets place him second in the conference.

Before exiting Sunday's contest, Wilson was highly active, recording six receptions for 83 yards on a team-high 12 targets.

Mitchell Emerges as Hall Nears Return

If Wilson cannot clear the protocol in time, New York will rely heavily on Adonai Mitchell to stretch the field. In just his second game back from a finger injury, Mitchell delivered a breakout performance against the Raiders, racking up seven catches for a career-high 142 yards and a touchdown.

The Jets could also see reinforcements in the backfield. Running back Breece Hall, who has missed the last five games with a quadriceps injury, could return to the lineup and will be a limited participant at practice this week.

New York's injury report extends beyond the skill positions, with tight end Mason Taylor, edge rusher David Bailey (groin), and edge rusher Joseph Ossai (ankle) all dealing with respective injuries.

The Jets will look to snap their skid on Sunday against a Chiefs squad coming off a 28-24 road loss to the Denver Broncos. Wilson must pass through all mandatory phases of the league's concussion protocol before he is cleared for game action.
