NFL Week 9 Quarterback Changes: Ravens Trade for Jacoby Brissett
The Baltimore Ravens have acquired Jacoby Brissett to replace an injured Lamar Jackson, leading a wave of Week 9 roster shakeups across the league.
The NFL landscape is undergoing significant quarterback shifts ahead of Week 9. On Wednesday, the Baltimore Ravens traded for veteran quarterback Jacoby Brissett from the Arizona Cardinals to address a sudden crisis under center. The move comes as star Lamar Jackson faces a likely season-ending thumb injury that is expected to require thumb surgery.
Ravens Scramble to Fill Quarterback Void
Head coach Jesse Minter and the 4-4 Ravens were forced into the trade market due to a depleted depth chart. With Jackson sidelined and backup Tyler Huntley out with turf toe, Baltimore was left with only undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano. Despite Jackson's expected absence, the AFC North remains within reach for Baltimore.
The Ravens turned to the 33-year-old Brissett, who recently fell out of favor in Arizona. Following a poor performance against the Dallas Cowboys, Brissett was demoted to third-string behind Gardner Minshew, while third-round rookie Carson Beck was promoted to back up. Brissett arrives in Baltimore having recorded 10 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a 48.9 QBR this season.
Shifts Under Center for Seattle and Philadelphia
Baltimore is not the only team navigating NFL Week 9 quarterback changes. The Seattle Seahawks will take the field without Sam Darnold this week. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Eagles are turning to Joe Milton at quarterback to lead their offense for Week 9.
Rams Welcome Back Myles Garrett
On the defensive side of the ball, the Los Angeles Rams received a major boost as Myles Garrett returned to practice on Wednesday. The team opened his 21-day practice window on Monday. Garrett has not played since undergoing knee surgery shortly after the season opener in Australia, a game in which he did not log a tackle.
The Rams acquired the two-time Defensive Player of the Year (2023 and 2025) from the Cleveland Browns in exchange for Jared Verse and three high draft picks. Los Angeles, currently sitting at 4-4, has won two straight games for the first time this season and will visit Washington on Sunday.
The Rams' defense, which has recorded just 12 sacks so far, needs Garrett's production. He boasts 125½ career sacks, which ranks third among active players. However, the unit did suffer a permanent setback, as Jaylen Watson was lost for the year.
Other NFL Roster Moves
In other notable roster developments across the league, Brandon Aiyuk has filed for reinstatement with the San Francisco 49ers.
